Public Speaking and Debating
This course is taught by professional and experienced speech and debating teachers and drama performance mentors. By cultivating an interest in public speaking and debating, helping students to gradually overcome timidity, and providing the opportunity to take part in lectures, debates, and performances on stage in a planned and step-by-step manner, RTS Writing College focuses our student’s natural talents and cultivates their critical thought. The program encourages students to develop an interest in this fun and challenging area, and to apply that knowledge in their process of study.
Course Outlines and Schedules
Public speaking and debating courses will teach students how to organize persuasive speech skills and arguments, explore the essence of strong questioning, explain how to identify and clearly express the main points of view, and promote communication skills. Successful students will thoroughly understand the construction and development of debates through the enumeration of arguments and open-ended presentations, as well as know how to prepare persuasive speeches and arguments. They will be able to form key arguments and express those arguments in debate. The course includes practical debate in class to simulate the real experience and show students different types of debates.
For all students, this course focuses on making demonstrative and informative speeches, vocal performance and persuasive argument structure.
The course also provides an opportunity to build confidence in impromptu speech making and to find each student’s voice.
Additionally, the course gives students the chance to learn the necessities of tone and manner, which are often assumed knowledge in Australian schools.
For older students, the course focuses on debate format and research as it applies to speech making, as well as issues of bias and personal opinion.
Schedule: Run during the school term and holidays, based on enrolment.
